Last year I saw Peter Broderick in concert which was in a word amazing. Before the concert though they showed the film for Efterklang's 'An Island' which was brilliant.

Now you can stream their new album here. If you like music tinged with ambience, if you like the music of the north, then you may well like this.

This is an album from some friends of CXVI the modern Hymn band. It's a contemplative psalm like affair with good music and invention within the songs. I like it. You can download the album for free here.

You can listen to one of their songs on their facebook page. Just click on the link.

Drowned in Sound Best Albums 2011

I'm not that familiar with who drowned in sound are, but judging from their best of year albums they seem to lean a little left of field which is good news. They have Nils Frahm's Felt; Winged Victory for the Sullen's self titled debut and Tim Hecker's Ravedeath all in the top 20.

You can read the detailed view of 75-50 // 49-21 // 20-6 by following the links. Or view their top 5 detailed view here.

Can't We All Just Get Along? Our Search For The Albums Everyone Loves

May 16, 2012
When the NPR Music team started talking about the 25th anniversary of Paul Simon's Graceland,we soon realized everyone on staff agreed it was one of the all-time great records. That doesn't happen very often, especially in a group of people with such divergent tastes in music.
This discovery got us thinking: Is it possible to form a top ten list of records everyone can agree on? The kinds of records that, if you put them on at a party, everyone would say, "turn it up!"
So we need you to vote. We've started by nominating 20 albums that we think will be loved by everyone who listens to them, and we want you to tell us whether YOU feel that love. To keep this running through the summer, we'll need more suggestions for albums that might fit the bill.Keep voting, and by August we hope to have a final list we can agree on.
A big quest like this one needs a big kickoff, so for this week's show Bob and Robin play a few selections they and the rest of the NPR Music team think everyone will love. Bob and Robin are also joined by folk singer Glen Hansard, who throws Bob Marley's Exodus into the ring.
We don't even scratch the surface of the surface with this show. But we hope to get the discussion going by fitting in as much in as possible, from quiet, emotional folk, and psychedelic funk, to high-strutting, head-banging rock.
